Hamedan, known as the \u201cCapital of History and Civilization of Iran,\u201d<\/strong> is located in western Iran, on the foothills of the magnificent Alvand Mountains. Hamedan is considered one of the oldest cities in Iran and the world, with a history dating back to the Median period. Known in ancient times as Ecbatana (Hegmataneh)<\/strong>, it was recognized as the capital of the Median Empire and one of Iran\u2019s major political and civilizational centres.<\/p>\n

Situated at the heart of the Silk Road<\/strong>, the city has historically served as a strategic station and vital crossroads for commercial, cultural and intellectual exchanges between East and West. The city\u2019s various traditional soups and stews, which have recently been inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List<\/strong> due to their distinctive preparation methods and long-standing traditions, are also among the most important expressions of Hamedan\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

Alongside this colourful culinary heritage, Hamedan\u2019s souvenirs enjoy a worldwide reputation. From the delicate pottery of Lalejin<\/strong> to high-quality leatherwork, kilim weaving and glassware, these crafts are all testament to the region\u2019s authentic artistic traditions.<\/p>\n

Among the city\u2019s sweets and snacks, Angosht-Pich<\/strong>, a thick and elastic confection made from egg whites, sugar and rosewater; Komaj<\/strong>, a sweet and nourishing bread filled with walnuts and cinnamon; Halva-ye Zardeh<\/strong>, a delicate and nutritious sweet made primarily from egg yolks and saffron; and Qout<\/strong>, a traditional and nourishing combination of bread, herbs, walnuts and cheese served as a customary afternoon snack, are among the most popular symbols of Hamedani hospitality.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
