Established on 17 December 1999 by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, following a recommendation by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth,[1] this observance provides an opportunity to draw global attention to the issues, challenges and potential of young people, as well as to celebrate their role in the development of human societies.<a href=\"\/#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38848\" src=\"https:\/\/unesco.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unesco.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/unesco.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unesco.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/unesco.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNESCO has consistently emphasized the fundamental role of young people in promoting peace, intercultural dialogue and social justice, as well as in addressing global challenges such as climate change, inequality, unemployment, technological challenges, and social and cultural risks.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, on the occasion of International Youth Day, the United Nations announces a central theme reflecting global priorities and the current needs of younger generations. In 2023, the theme was \u201cGreen Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World\u201d[1], which highlighted the need to develop environmental skills among young people and recognized them as pioneers in the transition to a green economy and a sustainable society. In 2024, the theme \u201cFrom Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development\u201d[2] was chosen, underscoring the importance of empowering young people in information technology and harnessing the potential of the digital world to foster social growth, innovation and active participation.
