UNESCO has given final approval to two major scientific and cultural achievements: the establishment of the first University Twinning Network (UNITWIN) in the field of structural conservation and risk management for architectural heritage at the University of Isfahan, and the establishment of the UNESCO Chair in Cognitive Sciences for Education, Innovation, and Human\u2013Technology Interaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These initiatives strengthen Iran\u2019s position in international research and technological cooperation and the conservation of architectural heritage. They also position Iran as a hub for regional and global cooperation on two key fronts: the technical conservation of architectural heritage and the development of cognitive technologies.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Establishment of the First University Twinning Network in Structural Conservation and Risk Management for Architectural Heritage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The establishment of the University Twinning Network (UNITWIN) in structural conservation and risk management for architectural heritage at the University of Isfahan has received UNESCO\u2019s final approval. This achievement marks Iran\u2019s first participation in a UNESCO inter-university network in this field. The network is chaired by Dr. Mehrdad Hejazi, a professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transportation at the University of Isfahan, with Krakow University of Technology in Poland designated as the project\u2019s main partner.<\/p>\n

The network has been established to address the urgent challenges facing architectural heritage sites exposed to natural and human-induced hazards, including earthquakes, floods, storms, and climate change. Such threats increasingly endanger the structural integrity and long-term conservation of cultural heritage. By combining structural conservation strategies with disaster risk management and emphasizing sustainability, accountability, diversity, and transparency, the network seeks to provide systematic, scientific, and innovative solutions for the conservation of architectural heritage.<\/p>\n

The University Twinning Network has been established with the participation of 10 universities, two intergovernmental organizations, and one governmental institution from 11 countries across Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe. It emphasizes interdisciplinary research and interregional cooperation. The participation of African institutions in this initiative is particularly significant, as it aligns with UNESCO\u2019s objectives of promoting development through cooperation with Africa.<\/p>\n

As the coordinating institution, the University of Isfahan will collaborate with reputable universities and institutions in Poland, Chile, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Turkey, and North Macedonia. These partnerships will provide a research and practical framework for disseminating knowledge and strengthening capacities in cultural heritage conservation through scientific publications, international conferences, workshops, and educational programs.<\/p>\n

This initiative represents a significant step towards consolidating Iran\u2019s position as a regional leader in architectural heritage conservation and advancing international scientific and cultural cooperation.<\/p>\n

UNESCO Chair in Cognitive Sciences for Education, Innovation, and Human\u2013Technology Interaction<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following efforts by the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies (ICSS) to establish the Chair in Cognitive Sciences for Education, Innovation, and Human\u2013Technology Interaction, the proposal has received UNESCO\u2019s approval. The Chair will commence its activities under the leadership of Dr. Hafez Haji-Karim Jabbari and will be hosted by the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies (ICSS).<\/p>\n

Since its establishment in 1997, the Institute has been one of the leading centers promoting interdisciplinary research and education in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, psychology, linguistics, and other related fields. It secured the Chair in collaboration with the Brain and Cognition Clinic, the National Brain Mapping Laboratory, and the Cognitive Science and Technology Accelerator.<\/p>\n

The objectives of the Chair include developing and strengthening interdisciplinary research in human and animal cognition and expanding its applications in health and technology; implementing educational programs and training specialized human resources in cognitive sciences for students, physicians, specialists, and researchers; supporting the development of innovative cognitive technologies to improve mental health and human well-being; and facilitating cooperation among universities, healthcare centers, and industry to translate research findings into practical solutions.<\/p>\n

The UNESCO Chair in Cognitive Sciences at the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies seeks to highlight the role of cognitive sciences as a driving force for transformation in science, technology, mental health treatments, and the enhancement of cognitive functions. In parallel with the rapid advancement of cognitive technologies, the Chair is mandated to pursue new approaches to the study of the mind and brain and to develop scientific and technological solutions to contemporary challenges.<\/p>\n

These two achievements\u2014the establishment of the first UNESCO inter-university network in architectural heritage conservation and the creation of the UNESCO Chair in Cognitive Sciences\u2014place Iran at the intersection of \u201cpreserving the past\u201d and \u201cinnovating for the future.\u201d These initiatives reflect the country\u2019s scientific capacity and growing potential to secure a prominent position in two major global fields: cultural heritage conservation and the development of cognitive technologies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
