\n<\/p>\n\n Iran Emphasizes the Role of Knowledge and International Cooperation in Supporting Communities Affected by Crises<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n\n In another part of the session, Dr. Seyed Zia Hashemi, Chair of the National Committee for MOST in Iran, emphasized the need to address the impact of crises and conflicts on communities, educational and scientific institutions, and human and knowledge capacities.
\n<\/p>\n\n In this context, he raised questions about the impact of the war in Gaza on civilians, educational institutions, and scientific and cultural activities, as well as the potential of BRIDGES and MOST to safeguard knowledge and ensure the continuity of education and research in times of crisis.
\n<\/p>\n\n The situation in Afghanistan and restrictions on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 access to educational opportunities were also among the issues discussed. Referring to Iran\u2019s recent experience of the consequences of war and the damage inflicted on certain educational and scientific institutions, cultural heritage sites, and civilian infrastructure, Dr. Hashemi also raised questions about UNESCO\u2019s capacity to help rebuild scientific and educational capacities, strengthen cooperation, and support sustainable development.
