National Committee for Oceanographic Sciences
The National Committee for Oceanographic Sciences (IOC) coordinates the programs of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission in Iran by promoting scientific cooperation in marine and oceanographic sciences, supporting ocean monitoring, and contributing to the reduction of marine hazards.
Introduction
The Committee was established to promote oceanographic research and foster cooperation and coordination in national and international programs, particularly participation in the programs of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). In accordance with the policies and principles of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, it seeks to advance the understanding, environmental protection, and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, natural lakes, and their associated basins.
The National Committee of Oceanographic Sciences comprises experts from national organizations, ministries, and universities, and began its activities following approval by the Council of Ministers on 2 May 1983.

This Committee was established to promote oceanographic research and foster cooperation and coordination in national and international programs, particularly participation in the programs of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, in accordance with the principles and policies of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the aim of understanding, protecting and environmentally safeguarding, and making responsible use of oceans, seas, natural lakes and their drainage basins. The National Oceanographic Committee is composed of experts from the country’s organizations, ministries and universities and began its activities following the approval of the Council of Ministers on 2 May 1983.
