National Committee for Bioethics and Ethics in Science and Technology
The National Committee for Bioethics and Ethics in Science and Technology serves as a scientific and advisory body by promoting bioethics and ethics in science and technology, examining emerging challenges, and supporting policymaking and national dialogue in these fields.
Introduction
The National Committee for Bioethics and Ethics in Science and Technology, established through the merger of the two committees on Bioethics and on Ethics in Science and Technology, was formed to advance UNESCO’s programs and recommendations on bioethics in the country, as well as its programs on professional ethics, medical ethics, environmental ethics, ethics in outer space, nanotechnology, and ethics education. It also aims to develop expert perspectives and recommendations and communicate them to UNESCO and other scientific forums at the national, regional, and international levels.
The Committee brings together specialists from a wide range of disciplines, including the fundamental sciences, social and human sciences, medical sciences, genetic engineering, biotechnology, cultural studies, philosophy, human rights, sociology, and genetics. It also includes representatives of leading national scientific and cultural institutions, the Academies of Sciences and Medical Sciences, medical commissions, the Pasteur Institute, and research organizations and institutions active in the field of bioethics.
