The National Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) strengthens the promotion of equity, safety, and sustainable development in physical education and sport through the development of policies and .national and international cooperation
Introduction
The National Committee for Sport and Physical Education of the National Commission for UNESCO has, since 2013, focused on examining UNESCO’s policies and activities, as well as those of the National Commission, in the fields of sport and youth. It is also responsible for carrying out specialized functions aimed at further consolidating and coordinating existing national capacities among relevant institutions, research centres, and ministries.
Given the importance of sport, physical education, and health, and the contribution of these areas to enhancing young people’s creativity and innovation in support of sustainable development, the National Committee for Sport and Youth affiliated with the National Commission for UNESCO in Iran was established on 30 June 2013.
The Committee comprises representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Youth, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, leading sports clubs and national sports federations, physical education research institutes, the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, and a number of Iranian national champions. Its activities focus on issues including the role of sport in diplomacy; sport and peace; strengthening national capacities; facilitating and promoting synergies among stakeholders and ideas concerning national sports programs; developing advisory policies in this field; and reflecting these connections and capacities at the national and international levels.
