Special Issue of “Custodians of Science and Culture” Published
The special issue on the war, entitled “Custodians of Science and Culture,” was prepared and published with the aim of recording and documenting the actions and achievements of Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO during the Third Imposed War.
During the Third Imposed War, launched by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the scope of damage extended beyond the military sphere. Various aspects of citizens’ lives and the country’s civilian infrastructure in the fields of education, science, culture, and historical and cultural heritage were affected by its destructive consequences. Under these circumstances, protecting these areas and accurately documenting the damage caused by the war became an important national and international imperative.
Drawing on the capacities of scientific and cultural diplomacy and international mechanisms, Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO sought to record and document the impacts and consequences of the war. Through these efforts, it aimed not only to convey the concerns of the Iranian people to the international community, but also to help inform future policymaking and strengthen efforts to advance peace, sustainable development and the protection of the common heritage of humanity.
The special issue on the war, entitled “Custodians of Science and Culture: An Overview of the Activities of Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO During the Third Imposed War (February–April 2026),” has been prepared and published to record and document the actions, correspondence, follow-up efforts and achievements of Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO during the Third Imposed War.
This publication offers an account of the efforts and activities undertaken to safeguard education, science, culture, cultural heritage, libraries and cultural institutions, sports centers, international consultations and media diplomacy.
