
Call for the 2025 UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercouri International Prize: An Opportunity to Showcase Outstanding Actions to Safeguard Cultural Landscapes
UNESCO and the Government of Greece invite all Member States and accredited non-governmental organizations to submit nominations for the 2025 Melina Mercouri International Prize. The Prize is awarded in recognition of outstanding actions for the safeguarding and management of cultural landscapes.

The overall objective of the Prize is to recognize outstanding actions for the safeguarding and enhancement of the world’s cultural landscapes. The Prize is also aligned with UNESCO’s policies and the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
It should be noted that the winner of the 2025 Prize will receive USD 30,000. The Prize is awarded every two years and there will be only one winner.
Conditions and Eligibility of Candidates
- Candidates may be individuals, institutions or organizations that have played a significant role in the safeguarding and management of cultural landscapes.
- The sites concerned do not need to be inscribed on the World Heritage List.
- Sites that are under consideration for inscription on the World Heritage List in the same year are not eligible for nomination.
Selection Process
The winner of the Prize is selected by the Director-General of UNESCO on the basis of the recommendations of an international jury.
Jury
- The jury consists of five independent members with expertise and recognized standing in relevant fields.
- Equitable geographical distribution, gender equality and the principle of serving without remuneration shall be respected.
- Members of the Executive Board may not be appointed as jury members.
