Voices of Glaciers
As glaciers continue to melt relentlessly across all latitudes, the disappearance of tropical glaciers offers a glimpse into what a world without ice might look like.
This book explores the lives of 35 diverse individuals whose lives are intertwined with tropical glaciers, sharing their emotions, perceptions and experiences, as well as how they are adapting to a changing reality.
These testimonies—from local Indigenous communities, tourists, conservationists, scientists, mountaineers, artists and others—offer a unique window into the tangible impacts of glacier loss, drawing on perspectives from a range of disciplines, from anthropology to glaciology and sustainability science. Images documenting the retreat of glaciers in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia over the past 175 years tell their own powerful and undeniable story.

Red Teaming AI for Social Good — Choudhury, Romi Nusenskidas, Theodora Lakshmi, Dania Amos, Sarah, 2025
Prepared by UNESCO in collaboration with Dr. Rumman Chowdhury and Humane Intelligence, this handbook provides a practical, step-by-step guide to help organizations, policymakers, educators and civil society actors test generative AI models for bias, stereotypes and potential harms, particularly those that enable technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).
Based on a real-world red-teaming exercise conducted at UNESCO, the handbook empowers users to identify risks, contribute to ethical AI development and advocate for safer, more inclusive digital spaces.
The African Book Industry – UNESCO Publishing, 2025
Thanks to its outstanding literary talent and a growing number of success stories, Africa’s book industry has enormous potential. Although the continent as a whole remains heavily dependent on imports and foreign publishing, it accounted for 5.4% of the global publishing market in 2023, generating approximately US$7 billion in annual revenue. With appropriate measures and policies in place, the continent’s book industry could therefore see market opportunities worth up to US$18.5 billion in the coming years, with educational publishing alone accounting for US$13 billion.
For the first time, UNESCO has conducted a comprehensive mapping of the book industry across all 54 African countries.
