National Committee of Education
The National Committee for Education enhances the national education system by mapping existing capacities, expanding national and international collaboration, facilitating the implementation of UNESCO programs in line with national policies and priorities, and strengthening specialized coordination mechanisms.
Introduction
The National Committee for Education serves as an intellectual hub and an operational arm of the Commission, seeking to analyze and implement, in accordance with the country’s needs and circumstances, UNESCO’s key programs and priorities for strengthening the national education system and addressing the challenges of the contemporary world. These include programs and activities aimed at universalizing access to education; enhancing the quality of education and promoting quality assurance standards within the national education system; empowering teaching personnel through the effective use of new technologies and ICTs; ensuring equal educational opportunities for girls and boys; promoting technical and vocational education and entrepreneurship; education for climate change; preventive health education, including HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention; and global citizenship education, including tolerance and the promotion of dialogue for peace and peaceful coexistence. These efforts are pursued in line with the objectives and priorities of the Global Education 2015 Agenda, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and UNESCO’s Medium-Term Strategy for 2016–2021 in the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The Committee also works closely with the Education Unit of the National Commission to communicate the country’s educational needs, as well as national innovations, achievements, and advances across different fields and levels of education, to UNESCO. The Committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology; the Ministry of Health and Medical Education; the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare; the Technical and Vocational Training Organization; and the Vice-Presidency for Strategic Planning and Supervision, as well as national experts and specialists in the fields of education, employment, and sustainable development.
