The 29th Annual National and Regional Conference of the Iranian Association of Environmental Specialists Was Held

The 29th Annual National and Regional Conference of the Iranian Association of Environmental Specialists, entitled “Resilience and the Energy, Water, Environment, and Food Security Nexus in Development Planning,” was held on February 15–16, 2026, at the Institute of Energy, Water and Environment Sciences and Technology of Sharif University of Technology, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.

At the conference, Dr. Hassan Fartousi, Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, participated in the session entitled “Regional and Global Cooperation: Resilience and the Energy, Water, Environment, and Food Security Nexus.” He emphasized the importance of adopting a systems approach to addressing climate crises, water scarcity, food insecurity, energy fluctuations, and ecosystem degradation. He noted that these crises are interconnected and that responses to them must be grounded in regional and global cooperation and guided by an integrated, science-based approach.

He also highlighted the role of specialized international organizations such as UNESCO in water resource management, water diplomacy, and transboundary cooperation. He stated that water could be a source of tension, but, through a knowledge-based and cooperative approach, it could instead provide a foundation for peace and convergence.

The conference, attended by officials, representatives of international organizations, university professors, researchers, and students, featured specialized sessions, scientific paper presentations, and the 19th Green Development Festival, at which outstanding works in film, photography, and painting were recognized.
