Statement of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO on the Israeli Regime’s Aggression against Iran
Following the recent aggression by the Israeli regime against Iranian territory and the killing of a number of the country’s military commanders, scientists, university professors and civilian citizens, the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO issued an official statement describing the act as a clear instance of “state terrorism” and warning of the global consequences of this crime.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
In the Name of Almighty God
Throughout its eventful history, the great civilization of Iran has witnessed numerous attacks by foreign powers whose malicious objectives have included encroaching upon Iran’s territory and resources, as well as killing Iranians and destroying the heritage and culture of this land. This time, in yet another crime, and on the eve of the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Ghadir Khumm, a number of heroes of the Sacred Defence, as well as some of the country’s most distinguished scientists and university professors, were killed in residential areas and in their homes. Their neighbours and civilian residents of their neighbourhoods were also killed and injured in this brutal attack.
The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO emphasized:
The Israeli regime has openly engaged in acts of terrorism in continuation of its crimes in Gaza and the killing of children and civilians. Any failure to prevent it from continuing this unlimited warmongering will undoubtedly threaten peace and security in the region and the world.
The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, while expressing its sympathy and condolences to the Supreme Leader, the Government, the noble people of Iran and the bereaved families, stated:
The civilized Iranian nation, with its flourishing culture, will emerge from this difficult trial with solidarity and empathy, safe and more dignified than before, and will continue to play its historic role in enriching the heritage of humanity. At the same time, it calls upon the international community, particularly scholars, intellectuals, and global intellectual and spiritual leaders, to take into account international conventions, particularly those concerning the freedom and safety of scientists, and, by condemning this state terrorism and taking any other effective measures, to prevent global peace, human rights and human justice from being further threatened and harmed.
