Communication and Information

Introduction

The Communication and Information Group of the National Commission for UNESCO operates within the framework of UNESCO’s mandate in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, with the aim of fostering knowledge societies that are inclusive, ethical and human-centred. The Group seeks to strengthen universal and equitable access to information and knowledge, promote media and information literacy and digital competencies, and support the free flow of information at both the national and international levels.

In recent years, with the rapid development of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, big data and digital platforms, UNESCO has placed increasing emphasis on the ethical, social and cultural dimensions of communication and information technologies. In this context, the Communication and Information Group of the National Commission for UNESCO seeks to promote ethical principles for artificial intelligence and develop approaches to addressing misinformation and disinformation, while supporting digital rights and protecting privacy through a responsible and human-centred approach to emerging technologies.

The Communication and Information Group of the National Commission for UNESCO focuses its programmes on supporting responsible journalism and strengthening media resilience in response to the challenges of the digital age. In collaboration with universities, government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations and innovation centres, the Group also works to advance digital governance, narrow the digital divide, and promote universal access to communication technologies.
