Expanding Cultural and Sports Cooperation through UNESCO’s Capacities
| Meeting between the Minister of Sports and Youth and the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO: A Step towards Advancing Cultural Diplomacy and Strengthening International Engagement |
On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, Dr. Ahmad Donyamali, Minister of Sports and Youth, and Dr. Hasan Fartousi, Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, met at the Ministry of Sports and Youth to discuss avenues for cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, as well as ways to leverage UNESCO’s capacities, including those of the National Committee for Sport and Physical Education.
Referring to issues such as sport for peace and youth empowerment, the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO announced his readiness to implement joint programs in cooperation with other national commissions in the region and around the world.
The Minister of Sports and Youth emphasized the importance of this engagement, stating: “UNESCO can serve as an effective intellectual partner in policymaking in the fields of youth and sports.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to develop a framework for continued cooperation.
