Following official confirmation by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), Kermanshah was announced as a new member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2025. This achievement marks an important step towards advancing education, promoting lifelong learning, and improving citizens’ quality of life.

With the official confirmation of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and through the efforts and follow-up by the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, Kermanshah was admitted as a new member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2025. The official membership certificate was issued by Ms. Isabel Kempf, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.

With this achievement, Kermanshah becomes the tenth Iranian city to join the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, an international network of cities from around the world working to strengthen lifelong learning, develop education policies, enhance human capacities, and improve citizens’ quality of life.

Membership in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities is granted only after an assessment of cities’ educational, cultural, social, and management indicators. Kermanshah’s admission to the network will provide opportunities to draw on global experience and implement innovative educational programs.
