Minister of Science Visits the Secretariat of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO

On Monday, 30 March 2026, Dr. Hossein Simaei-Sarraf, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, visited the Secretariat of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, where he met with Dr. Hassan Fartousi, Secretary-General of the Commission, and its staff to learn firsthand about their activities and the measures undertaken. Expressing his appreciation for their efforts during the Ramadan War, he described the work carried out as valuable and noteworthy.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO presented a comprehensive report on the measures undertaken to document damage to the country’s scientific, cultural, and historical heritage during the American–Israeli war. This documentation is being prepared for submission to UNESCO and other relevant international organizations.

At the initiative of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO has also conducted field visits to affected provinces and areas to collect evidence and assess the damage in detail, with the aim of preparing a documented and verifiable report to support international follow-up efforts.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that all international protocols and rules emphasize the protection of countries’ scientific and cultural heritage, attacks during the Ramadan War have damaged several historical and cultural sites across the country. In this context, preparing and submitting documented reports to international organizations represents an important step towards safeguarding the country’s valuable heritage and pursuing legal action in response to the damage.
