Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark Wins First and Second Place in the “Geoparks and You” Competition
Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark won first and second place in the international “Geoparks and You” competition, in the “Five Senses of the Geopark” and “Earth’s Visual Odyssey” categories, respectively.
In this competition, Adelah Sadat Sajjadipour won first place in the “Five Senses of the Geopark” category with her work entitled “Take a Journey with Me to Morteza Ali Spring.” Seyed Hamid Haghighi also won second place in the “Earth’s Visual Odyssey” category with a photograph depicting a camel caravan in the Halvan desert ecosystem, set against the landscape of the Kolmard Highlands.
Securing two top placements in this international competition highlights the natural and geological potential of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark, as well as the role of the local community in presenting and sharing the region’s natural and geological heritage on the international stage.
The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO congratulates the award recipients, the officials and staff of Tabas UNESCO Global Geopark, and the local community on this achievement. It also commends the participation and success of Tabas representatives in this international competition and wishes them continued success in their activities and future contributions on the international stage.
The “Geoparks and You” competition was organized for residents of UNESCO Global Geoparks and featured three categories: “Five Senses of the Geopark,” “Rock Stories,” and “Earth’s Visual Odyssey.” Entries from participants representing UNESCO Global Geoparks in various countries were evaluated as part of the competition.
The competition was held as part of the 9th Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Conference (APGN), hosted by Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark in Malaysia in September 2026.
