Nowruz Greetings from the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO
In the Name of God, the God of Love and Peace
The auspicious days of Nowruz, the festival of renewal and enlightenment, have arrived, hand in hand with the blessed celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
Let the drummer beat twice to herald the good tidings,
For last night was Laylat al-Qadr, and today is Nowruz.
Although, at the dawn of the New Year, the crimson tulip bears the mark of the eternal souls who have departed, and sorrow weighs heavily on our hearts, while various parts of this flourishing land suffer from the devastating blows of violence inflicted by warmongers, the people of this ancient land have learned to rise from the darkness of difficult days, through steadfastness and perseverance, to celebrate the grandeur and verdant beauty of spring in the land of Iran.
For Iran is like a garden, verdant in spring,
Where the flowers of good fortune forever bloom.
On behalf of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the auspicious occasions of Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr, two traditions inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, to all Iranians and people around the world.
May the New Year bring progress in education, science, and culture, and be filled with friendship, tolerance, and peace for all.
Hassan Fartousi
Secretary-General
